Tivo Upgrade Step One

I have decided to upgrade my tivo by adding a 2nd hard drive.  There are some instructions here: www.tyger.org/MFS/2.0/howto.html  but I have been reading them for the last couple hours and they are 6442 words kind of jumbled together.

I like the part where it says:

You will need a few things before you start the upgrade process.
1. A TiVo

If I didn’t have a tivo why would I be trying to upgrade it?  This cracks me up.

Then there is the part that says - don’t stick your finger in the power supply while it is plugged in.  I am surprised they didn’t warn you to be very careful not to poke yourself in the eye while you’re working because it can hurt, and they didn’t say anything about licking your finger and then sticking it in the power supply so I wonder if that is ok?

The big problem with the tivo upgrade instructions is that they tried to take every possible option and cram it into one document.  So it comes out being marginally helpful to anyone.

This is how it reads to me, if you have a new B drive in your tivo but a old A drive but your replacing the new A drive with a old B drive, or you want to move your old B drive to your A slot then go to step 11 unless your old B dive has been formatted before and your A drive is new but not formatted, if you have only one drive or your B drive is larger than your A drive then disregard these instructions unless your B drive is empty and your A drive is original then don’t disregard these instructions.

I just want to add a new B drive and I don’t care about all the other junk.

But for now I am stuck because I have lost my Torx #10 screwdriver, and that’s no joke. I had 3 of them and now they are all gone, so I have to go get another one.

So I will start again after I get my special screwdriver and maybe this tivo mumbo jumbo will make more sense to me tomorrow.

I still love my Tivo.
